Origins to Hip Hop Journalism
For many years, journalism has been essential to the everyday lives of countless people. Journalism helps consumers get information in the most accurate way possible. In recent years, Hip-Hop has become one of the most prominent music genres in the world. In Dean Van Nyguyen's article he discussed how Hip-Hop made its way into the journalism field. The article starts with giving props to journalist Greg Tate. Tate is regarded as being the first journalist to focus on the genre of Hip-Hop. He first started his career in the year 1981 covering various topics in the genre. He started off being influenced by some of the works of Langston Hughes, which as a result allowed him to properly get his thoughts across in a literary manner. From reviews of music to columns on artists, this served as a way to keep regular fans in tune with their favorite artists. As a result of this, Grant has inspired a plethora of Hip-Hop outlets that still exist today.
